About Me

Andy Jiahao Liu | 刘家豪

Welcome to my academic website!

I’m Andy Jiahao Liu, currently a Ph.D. student in the Language, Literacy, and Social Studies Education program at the University of Iowa. Prior to that, I was an award-winning Global Professor of English at the University of Arizona. I am a teacher who does research, and a researcher who teaches. My research centers around second language writing, English for research publication purposes, and language testing and assessment. These fields of inquiry are intertwined with my identity as a multilingual writer, my role as an EAL navigator in the academic publication landscape, and my experience growing up in a test-oriented society. My scholarly work has appeared in journals and edited collections such as Journal of Second Language Writing, Innovations in Education and Teaching International, and International Journal of Language Testing. I am currently co-editor of the Journal of Second Language Writing 2025/26 Special Issue on Emotions in Teaching Second Language Writing and am co-authoring a contracted book titled Teaching Social Studies to Multilingual Learners of English (TESOL Press, forthcoming 2025). Most recently, I signed a contract with Multilingual Matters for my co-edited volume, Emotions in Teaching Writing in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts (forthcoming 2027).

I develop and maintain this website as a digital portfolio to showcase my teaching, research, and professional service; I do so on a yearly basis, though. My current research projects focus on emotions in teaching writing in multilingual and multicultural contexts, the intersection of Global Englishes and writing pedagogy in higher education, as well as the autoethnographic approach to researching identity.
